Encaustic
INSTRUCTOR: Pressman
Saturday(s)/Sunday(s), 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Class ends at 3:00pm on October 18th.

Encaustic is a centuries old method of painting with molten beeswax or wax and pure pigment, resulting in luscious, vibrant colors. In this workshop we will explore various encaustic techniques including layering, fusing, incising, scraping, combining oil sticks with encaustic, combining encaustic and collage, safety issues and much more. The workshop is self-directed; I don\'t teach people to paint in a particular way. Rather, I support each student to explore their own creativity. Encaustic is a uniquely spontaneous medium in many ways, as working with wax helps one to let go of \"attachment to outcome.” Students are encouraged to take risks, let go of preconceived ideas, and most of all, to have fun exploring this versatile medium. Please email instructor for optional supply list or any questions - lpart@earthlink.net.

Pastel is perhaps one of the most versatile and expressive mediums available. The process of building color and capturing light to achieve balance and simplicity is discovered through a series of structured exercises which expose students to form, composition, value and color theory. Working from photographs, combined with demonstration and discussion, students build confidence and skill with each session. Creative Surfaces for the Digital Artist
INSTRUCTOR: Kuehn
Sunday(s), 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Create your own custom surfaces for digital printing using specialized inkjet receptive coatings called digital grounds. InkAID® is the most familiar, but now Golden Paints® has a line of new products for you. You will learn how to coat, tint and texturize assorted papers as well as nonporous surfaces. These products allow you to explore a variety of materials from delicate rice papers to spun polyester and digital transfers. The class includes preparation of surfaces, creating digital transfers and a demonstration on how to properly handle and print using an inkjet printer. Discussion will also include compatibility of mixed media with these coatings. Drying times will vary; therefore, prepared materials will be taken home for printing.
